Can you imagine leaving your Enchanting Island ?

Wow!! This question is so hard and sad to me. Well let me start. I miss everything. But one of these things are my family. I miss just to kiss my mom. Really I need her hug, and her words to me. I talk with her everyday, but it is not enough for me. This is the big one.

The other things I miss are the hot weather, the beautiful and blue beaches, and the fresh air of the mountain with amazing flowers. The smell is incredible, and in the night the songs of "Del Coqui". The "Coqui" is a native animal of Puerto Rico, like a frog, but so special because in the night or if it rains he starts to sing, "coqui, coqui, coqui". Well, I can't believe it! When you have left everything, your family and your country, because you have no choice.

In my case, I left my Puerto Rico because my husband had a big health problem. His heart aorta was broken and his heart valve didn't work very well. It was time to leave everything and go to obtain treatment in the United States and thank God for this because this changed my life and my family's life to more suitable and my husband is better. He is like a miracle. I miss my Enchanting Island Puerto Rico, but I'm blessed with the life of my husband!

Lilli, you are right some times we need to sacrifice our good way of living and go far from our love ones but every thing happens for a good reason, now you can see your husban, his health is better, and you can say that your sacrifice worthed the trouble.
P.S
You have to be proud of your self

Lilli, your writing really transported me to the island. I am glad your husband had a miraculous recovery and that life is better. I'm sure Colorado Springs seems barren compared to lush Puerto Rico, you must miss that.

Dear Lilli,
The picture and your words made me want to experience your Puerto Rican paradise. I hope that you and your husband will be able to return to P.R. some day --for a visit at least. Sometimes a hot, steamy shower can help you feel like you are on a tropical island for a minute or two! Beth

Lilli, you are right. We all have something to miss from our country, but one day we will see it again. We just have to be patiens and wait to the day to come. The good thing of you living your enchated island it's that you husband is healthy. I think that's the most important thing.

I hope you can see your enchated island again soon.
You are a good person and for all that you have done you will receive a great gift.

Lilli, You have written beautifully about "your enchanting island," providing many details of the sights and sounds, as well as the people.

Your ending sentence is a thoughtful summary of your gains and losses in
emigrating to the U.S.

And you've chosen the perfect photo to gain readers' attention.

Have you read Esmeralda Santiago's memoir, WHEN I WAS PUERTO RICAN? Your
lovely writing reminded me of hers.

Best wishes,
June

Lilly:
What a great writing piece!
This is Eunice, I am one of the ESL teachers at Gorman and I was so moved by your writing piece. As a Puertorrican, I deeply feel and understand your feelings and thoughts about our beloved "Isla del Encanto" (Enchanted Island). I came to the United States in the year 2000, I came under different circumstances but, just like you...in the beginning it was hard for me to get use to the lack of that peculiar sound...YES! the sound of 'el coqui'.
Although sometimes you wonder why??? There's a reason you're here, your husband is healthy, and you did what you had to do.

You should read Esmeralda Santiago's "When I was a Puerto Rican" and the continuation of this book, called "Almost a Woman".
